Course Objectives:
This course aims to deepen the skillful observational analysis of posture and movement and improve facilitation skills beyond the level provided in the Basic Course on Assessment and Treatment of Adults with Neurological Conditions – The Bobath Concept.
The primary goal of this course is to understand the spastic movement disorder resulting from central nervous system alterations (stroke, TBI, multiple sclerosis, incomplete spinal cord injury), and to understand the correlation of positive and negative clinical signs after an upper motor neuron lesion.
The advanced course is comprised of lectures, clinical reasoning sessions corresponding to
treatment demonstrations, practical sessions, and supervised treatment sessions with
neurological impaired patients.
Specific Objectives:
  • To promote an evidence-informed approach based on current literature in relation to upper motor neuron syndrome.
  • Understand the relevance of neural weakness in movement dysfunction.
  • Implement clinical reasoning strategies for people with neurological disorders.
  • Identify the patient’s potential to achieve optimal functional activity.
  • Acquire an advanced level of facilitation skills (manual, verbal, and environmental) for the treatment of adults with Neurological Conditions

Prerequisite:
15-day Basic IBITA/CBIA/NDTA Bobath course.

Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – Lyndhurst Centre

Waiver:
All participants must sign a waiver and a manual handling disclosure to participate in the practical components.

Dress:
Please wear appropriate clothing for undressing during practical sessions, e.g. shorts, sports bra.

Certificate:  
A certificate cannot be issued if non-attendance to the course is > than 2 hours less than the course schedule.

Refreshment Policy:

Refreshments will be provided during AM and PM break.  Please bring your own water bottle/coffee cup.
Registrants are required to bring their own lunch.
CBIA Cancellation Policy:
  • A $150 cancellation fee will be charged if the participant cancels up to one month prior to course commencement.
  • If the participant cancels within one month of course commencement, a refund will only be granted (minus $150 cancellation fee) if the course place is filled by another registrant.
  • The Canadian Bobath Instructors Association reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if a minimum number of course registrants is not met. Course registrants are responsible for their travel expenses including changes to bookings, please take the above into consideration when booking flights and/or reserving accommodation.
    CBIA reserves the right to substitute CBIA Instructors if any one of them is rendered unable to teach
