Developing the Clinical Reasoning Process using the Model of Bobath Clinical Practice. A Post-Basic 2 day course.

Course Pre-Requisite: 

Course participants must have completed the Basic Bobath (15 day) certification course, or the NDT certification course.  To register course participants must submit a copy of their Basic Course certificate.

Post Basic Course Description:

This is a 2-day practical course for physiotherapists and occupational therapists who have completed the 15-day IBITA / NDTA certified Basic Course titled ‘Assessment and Treatment of Adults with Neurological Conditions, The Bobath concept’.

The course will utilize patient demonstrations, practical sessions and lecture format in which

movement analysis, clinical reasoning and facilitation skills will be explored at a post basic level.

An illustration of the Model of Bobath Clinic Practice will be presented in lecture format using a case illustration of a person post-stroke to explicate the identification of critical cues and the development of working hypotheses to guide the intervention plan.

 

Post Basic Course Objectives:

  • To further develop the clinicians human movement analytical skills and the impact of movement dysfunction on functional activities.
  • To further develop the manual handling skill of ‘facilitation’ of the clinician.
  • To further develop the clinical reasoning skills of the clinician at a post-basic course level.
  • To further develop the clinician’s ability to use the Model of Bobath Clinical Practice to explicate their clinical reasoning and systematically guide the intervention plan.

Waiver:
All participants must sign a waiver and a manual handling disclosure to participate in the practical components.

Dress:
Please wear appropriate clothing for undressing during practical sessions, e.g. shorts, sports bra.

Certificate:  
A certificate cannot be issued if non-attendance to the course is > than 2 hours less than the course schedule.

Refreshment Policy:

Refreshments will be provided during AM and PM break.  Please bring your own water bottle/coffee cup.
Registrants are required to bring their own lunch.
CBIA Cancellation Policy:
  • A $150 cancellation fee will be charged if the participant cancels up to one month prior to course commencement.
  • If the participant cancels within one month of course commencement, a refund will only be granted (minus $150 cancellation fee) if the course place is filled by another registrant.
  • The Canadian Bobath Instructors Association reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if a minimum number of course registrants is not met. Course registrants are responsible for their travel expenses including changes to bookings, please take the above into consideration when booking flights and/or reserving accommodation.
    CBIA reserves the right to substitute CBIA Instructors if any one of them is rendered unable to teach

Our location at 2255 St-Laurent Blvd is in the Ottawa Business Park in South-East Ottawa, near the corner of St. Laurent Blvd. and Walkley Road. Our suite #120 is on the main level, just down the hall from the accessible side entrance door facing the parking lot. Please note the front entrance is not wheelchair or walker accessible.

From the 417, take exit 110, Walkley Rd West.
Parking is free.
