Course Description:

A two-day course for rehabilitation assistants.

Course participants will gain a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of the Bobath concept with respect to appropriate handling of the hemiplegic upper limb, movement transitions such as transfers, bed mobility, and gait, positioning in the wheelchair, getting into and out of bed, dressing, and undressing.

The course will be largely practical with the opportunity to practice handling skills with patients during goal-orientated tasks. Key learning from each patient session will be summarized and presented to the group. An introductory lecture will provide Theoretical knowledge about the application of the Bobath Concept.

Waiver:
All participants must sign a waiver and a manual handling disclosure to participate in the practical components.

Dress:
Please wear appropriate clothing for undressing during practical sessions, e.g. shorts, sports bra.

Certificate:
A certificate cannot be issued if non-attendance to the course is > than 1 hour less than the course schedule.

Lunch:
Lunch is not included in course fees.

  • Access to a fridge, microwave, and kettle will be available at the venue
  • There is a strip mall at the corner of Oak & King Edward with a Safeway (Starbucks inside),Osaka Sushi, Kim Express (Vietnamese), and Hong Kong Mandarin Cafe
CBIA Cancellation Policy:
  • A cancellation fee will be charged if the participant cancels up to one month prior to course commencement.
  • The Canadian Bobath Instructors Association reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course if a minimum number of course registrants is not met.
  • CBIA reserves the right to substitute CBIA Instructors if any one of them is rendered unable to teach
COVID-19 Note:
  • Thank you for understanding that due to Covid-19, course participants need to be adaptable and prepared for the possibility of last-minute changes. Short-notice course cancellation may be unavoidable. Participant costs associated with cancellation of travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the course participant.
  • Precautions may vary depending upon PHO orders and college recommendations at the time of the course.
  • No one may enter the venue if (1) they have Covid-19 symptoms; or, (2) are Covid-19 positive.
  • At this time there are no masking requirements, participants may choose to wear a mask. Be aware that:
    • Participants attending are from different healthcare institutions
    • There is close contact during practical and treatment sessions
  • It is highly recommended that course participants have up-to-date booster vaccinations for COVID-19.
  • To help in keeping all course participants and patients healthy, please respect public health guidelines by washing/sanitizing your hands whenever appropriate and cough or sneeze into your arm!

Description:

GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre is located at 4255 Laurel St. in Vancouver (near Oak St & King Edward Ave). All entry and exit from the building is through the main entrance.

The course will be held in the Main PT gym. Once you enter the building go past the elevators and turn left to find the OT / PT department. Turn right into the PT side and follow signs to the ‘PT Nook’

Parking:

Paid parking is available in the staff parking lot. Please pay at the parking machine by the main entrance. Please do not park in visitor’s parking.

Free street parking is available on some of the streets around G.F. and in the residential neighborhood north of King Edward (around Douglas Park). Please read the signage as some streets have only permit parking.
